Today, the annual First Responders BBQ hosted by Wendell Foster and Chamber Young Professionals is taking place at Wendell Foster’s Sensory Park to honor Owensboro and Daviess County first responders with free lunch, ice cream, yard games, music — provided by Blue Line Entertainment — and door prizes. The event runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Owensboro and Daviess County have a long tradition of serving mutton at barbecues because records show that more sheep than cattle were raised in the 1860s and the meat now costs about $14.95 per pound—much higher than beef—making it a prized delicacy at select local restaurants.
