About this event
Take a fascinating journey through the history of one of America’s most important waterways! Join historian Eddie Price as he explores how the mighty Ohio River helped shape our nation’s growth, commerce, and communities. From prehistoric dugout canoes and flatboats to majestic steamboats, Civil War gunboats, and today’s modern towboats, you’ll discover the vessels and people that transformed life along the river.
This engaging slideshow features historic maps, photographs, charts, and illustrations, along with stories of early settlers, the first steamboat New Orleans , the Civil War’s “Brown-water Navy,” and the continuing work of the Army Corps of Engineers. Mr. Price will also bring a detailed model of the New Orleans flatboat for attendees to view up close.
Whether you’re a history enthusiast, genealogy researcher, river lover, or simply curious about our region’s rich heritage, this program offers an entertaining and educational look at the Ohio River’s lasting impact on America.
