  • The Owensboro Convention Center will host the Your Perfect Day Wedding Show on Sunday, Jan. 18 from 12 PM to 4 PM — local wedding experts will display trends, offer food samples and vendor discounts, with general admission at $5 and VIP tickets at $15.  WOMI Owensboro

  • Experts warn Owensboro consumers that bargain-priced jerseys may be knockoffs made with low-quality materials (which can fall apart quickly) and advise buying from reputable local retailers as the NFL playoffs and college football season continue today.  WDRB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • OSCAR — the Owensboro Sister Cities and Regions Board — invites local students aged 14-18 to apply for the 2026 Youth Leadership Summit at American University in Washington, D.C. Applicants must complete a local pre-application by Jan. 16 before a global deadline on Feb. 1 and receive a $500 stipend if accepted.  The Owensboro Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Monday, low-income residents were able to apply for LIHEAP, a home energy assistance program available in all 120 counties on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants were required to provide proof of income, current electric bills, and identification at their local Community Action Agency.  14 News
  • Daviess County Fiscal Court allocated $300,000 to Owensboro’s RiverPark Center to cover last year’s shortfalls and support a range of 2026 shows. County officials said the funds come from surplus hotel tax revenue to keep daily operations running.  14 News
  • Kentucky law required vape and tobacco retailers to be licensed and inspected to curb underage vaping. Owensboro retailers must now limit products to authorized items, and violations may lead to fines & license loss.  44 News
  • The Owensboro Bridge remains closed as contractors work to replace 900 feet of deck and pour 500 feet of concrete, and KYTC now expects the reopening to be delayed until the end of January while liquidated damages exceed $1.5 million.  The Owensboro Times
  • The Glover Cary Bridge (Blue Bridge) is expected to reopen at the end of the month, two weeks later than its most recent planned date due to late work and extra steel repairs. Drivers crossing the river are advised to use the U.S. 231 William H. Natcher Bridge.  14 News
  • LIHEAP, offered by Audubon Area Community Services, will help eligible residents pay utility bills with direct provider payments from today through March 27, while families earning up to 150% of federal poverty guidelines can apply on a first-come, first-served basis by contacting their local county office.  WOMI Owensboro
  • The City of Owensboro Street Department announced that East 6th and Maplewood closed on Monday, Jan. 5 for repairs that will last 2 weeks (weather permitting). Daviess Street between 2nd and 3rd will close on Wednesday, Jan. 7 for equipment staging at the Owensboro Museum of Science and History.  44 News
  • The long-closed Glover Cary “Blue” Bridge is now scheduled to reopen at the end of January after another delay—local officials expect revised plans to be released soon.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer

  • Owensboro Catholic's Aces & Lady Aces clinched Region All A titles with wins over the Cougars and McLean County. The Lady Aces earned a 54-40 victory with strong second-quarter play while the Aces dominated 59-32 despite missing their starting point guard.  The Owensboro Times
