- ➤ Yesterday, a fire damaged the St. Stephen Cathedral parish office when firefighters arrived at 12:39 a.m. and controlled the blaze by 1:03 a.m. with no injuries, and the church closed the office while staff assessed the damage and planned insurance reviews (the adjacent cathedral and diocesan buildings were not affected). - ➤ The Owensboro Riverport Authority received a $1.12M grant (part of the KIASI program) to expand rail access and boost safety and efficiency for local industries. Construction will begin in summer 2026 to pave 26,500 sqft for a new access road and create a truck loading area. The Owensboro Times

- ➤ The DCHS Dance Team won its first double state title at the KHSAA competition this weekend—taking first place in Large Hip Hop and Game Day—and will compete at nationals in Orlando on Feb. 12. 14 News

- ➤ The Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati announced nearly $52 million in Affordable Housing Program grants for 30 projects across the region. In Owensboro, The Purpose Place received $1.5 million via Field & Main Bank to create 44 rental units for households earning 80% or less of the median income. 44 News

- ➤ Neil Hayden reached 170 wins on Jan. 6 at Daviess County, moving him into second all-time (overtaking Mike West) as his team started the season 14-3 and aims for a deep playoff run. The Owensboro Times
- ➤ The Kentucky All A Classic State Basketball Championship will take place in Owensboro from January 21 to 25 at the Sportscenter — the tournament gives smaller schools a chance to compete with boys’ and girls’ teams starting at 8:30 a.m. on January 21 and concluding on January 25. 14 News
- ➤ Apollo defeated Owensboro 67-43 as Landon Henning scored 19 points + recorded a school record six dunks. Owensboro will host Breckinridge County tonight while Apollo travels to Muhlenberg County. The Owensboro Times
