  • Despite a harsh winter storm last night, Owensboro VFW Post 696 continued its nine-year Taps tradition as Mike Staser drove from Beaver Dam to honor fallen veterans (the ritual will continue tonight despite icy roads).  WOMI Owensboro
  • On Monday, Owensboro Police surprised children with hot chocolate during a snow day event, delighting families and sledders (thanks to Dunkin's donation). The gesture brought warmth to a chilly day and added extra cheer to community fun.  14 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • A free public screening of the documentary The Librarians was scheduled for today but has been postponed due to inclement weather and will now take place on Feb. 3.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Owensboro Catholic’s Molly Arnold has signed with Lindsey Wilson University to continue her volleyball and academic career, and the standout, who helped lead a back-to-back 3rd Region Championship team, plans to finish her senior year while practicing with her travel team.  The Owensboro Times

FINANCE NEWS

  • A new WalletHub study ranked Kentucky as the worst state for retirement, citing low scores on affordability, quality of life (42nd) and health care (47th); local retirees may face tougher challenges on fixed incomes in the coming months.  WOMI Owensboro

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kentucky State Trooper Corey King said KSP responded to 16 winter storm calls on Sunday along Audubon Parkway, Twin Bridges, and the Owensboro bypass and expected more on Monday. He warned that slick roads remain and advised drivers to use four-wheel drive or stick to cleared lanes.  14 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new national study has ranked Kentucky last for retirement quality because life expectancy and healthcare access measure poorly, while affordable care and a tight-knit community still draw residents. Researchers compared 46 factors across 50 states in the report.  WOMI Owensboro
