COMMUNITY NEWS

  • 92.5 WBKR is broadcasting live today in a 26-hour fundraiser for St. Jude that began yesterday, inviting locals to pledge $19 a month by calling 1-800-201-8883 or texting HOPE to 88388 to receive a 'Music Gives to St. Jude Kids' t-shirt and limited edition hoodie.  WOMI Owensboro
  • The Bluegrass Legends Experience Car Show in Owensboro raised $61,000 in 2025 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital by donating a check during the Radiothon. Volunteers including Jimmy, Janie and Sue Henderson led the effort as the car community celebrated classic cars and local support.  WOMI Owensboro
  • At Kim's Diner, local supporters raised over $3,000 during the St. Jude Radiothon today (including a nearly $1,000 donation) to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Organizers plan to build on this momentum as fundraising continues tomorrow.  WOMI Owensboro

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Daviess County Public Schools will build a new elementary school to replace Highland Elementary and may rename the project. The district plans to address aging issues while providing better facilities in the coming months.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Owensboro Rep. DJ Johnson’s bill to ban commercial harvesting and transport of live trophy catfish from the lower Ohio River advances in the House Natural Resources and Energy Committee, with the law set to take effect in 2027. The measure will not affect recreational fishing or the Butler County Catfish Festival.  The Owensboro Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials reported 13 nonfatal overdose encounters from Jan. 29 to Feb. 4 that raised an alert in Daviess County; they urged residents to carry naloxone (Narcan), learn overdose signs, call 911, and share prevention information to counter fentanyl risks.  44 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Three Apollo Eagles inked their college letters as they take the next step in their football careers. JT Edge is headed to Murray State while Caiden Tutt and Eh'Madjai Badger will join Kentucky Wesleyan after playing together since 2022.  The Owensboro Times
  • Local schools competed in the 1st Region Tournament Tuesday and Wednesday, with Apollo’s girls and Daviess County’s boys finishing as runners-up and advancing to the KHSAA State Tournament next Monday and Tuesday while several individual bowlers earned top 20 placements.  The Owensboro Times
