COMMUNITY NEWS

  • WBKR’s St. Jude Radiothon, which concluded February 7, raised a record-breaking $405,253 and showcased Owensboro’s strong support for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital — the highest total in its 22-year history.  The Owensboro Times

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Owensboro’s The Oven is opening a second location in Cannelton this week, with a soft opening planned Monday. The new restaurant at 134 South 6th Street will offer an expanded menu, live entertainment, and more seating than its original location.  The Owensboro Times
  • Ernesto’s Mexican Bar and Grill closed its Owensboro locations as leases expired, while its Whitesville outlet stays busy with strong community support. The restaurant plans a new location on the outskirts once financing and a building purchase are finalized (no opening date announced yet).  The Owensboro Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Whitesville Historical Society will host its sixth annual Native American Artifact Show on March 7 from 9 a.m. + noon at the Whitesville Senior Center at Whitesville Park with free admission. The event will feature artifact displays, a Best Artifact contest and a speaker presentation to educate about local heritage.  The Owensboro Times
  • ROMP Bluegrass Festival has announced its daily lineup featuring I’m With Her, Punch Brothers, and Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives, with GA and VIP tickets on sale; the festival will be held from June 24-27 in Owensboro.  14 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Miss Kentucky 2025 Ariana Rodriguez will speak at OCTC's 9th Trailblazer Dinner on Feb. 26 at Blandford Lecture Hall in the Humanities Building; the event starts at 4:30 p.m. with a program fair followed by dinner and a main program for students + community members.  The Owensboro Times
  • Owensboro recently hosted a regional high school mock trial tournament where students from across the state competed amid weather challenges. Four teams advanced to the state tournament and the winner will represent Kentucky at the national competition in May — in Des Moines, Iowa.  The Owensboro Times
  • Owensboro Community & Technical College and the Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club will launch an eight-week Workforce Academy for 24 teens at the downtown campus on Frederica Street starting Wednesday, Feb. 12. Funded by Kentucky’s Kids Workforce Grant, the academy will finish with a ceremony on April 1.  The Owensboro Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Boys’ basketball games on Friday, Feb. 6 saw Daviess County beat Apollo 60-50 behind strong play from Jonathan Moss, and McLean County won 74-46 over Dawson Springs; Meade County and Grayson County also secured wins over Hancock County and Trinity (Whitesville) respectively.  The Owensboro Times
  • On Feb. 6, Daviess County's Lady Panthers defeated Apollo 69-32 with Kennedy Lane scoring a career-high 32 points. Trinity (Whitesville) rallied for a 61-57 upset over Grayson County while Hancock County lost 56-30 to Meade County.  The Owensboro Times
  • Daviess County cheer advanced two teams to the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship DI finals in Orlando, Florida set for today with the Lady Panthers scoring 92.2 on Friday and the Medium Varsity finishing seventh—coach Kitty Jones said her teams are eager to improve on Sunday.  The Owensboro Times
