  • In Western Kentucky, Cinderella’s Closet offers free prom dresses for high school girls and invites volunteers 20+ to help sort gowns and accessories at its ‘Turn Dresses into Dreams’ event from Thursday, March 19th through Saturday, March 21st — donation drop-off sites are available locally.  WOMI Owensboro

CULTURE NEWS

  • RiverValley Behavioral Health invites young artists from kindergarten through college in a seven-county region to enter its 'Be Kind to Your Mind' art contest promoting mental health awareness. Winners will earn a $500 scholarship (with matching donations to their chosen school or nonprofit) and finalists will be announced in May with an awards ceremony scheduled for June.  44 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Owensboro Fire Department is hiring 10-12 entry-level firefighter recruits to begin training this summer; interested applicants can attend an Open House on March 7 and must apply by March 14. Entry-level positions start at $56,202 annually + more than $4,500 in state incentive pay.  44 News
  • Public Works crews have begun cutting trees along the Greenbelt by U.S. 60 West and moving toward West Parrish Avenue today. Temporary rolling closures are in effect and updates on crew locations will be posted daily — check local signs for details.  The Owensboro Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • RiverValley Behavioral Health has partnered with Owensboro High School to provide QPR suicide prevention training for about 300 freshmen from Tuesday, Feb. 17 to Feb. 20 at the school. The program will equip students with skills to spot signs of a mental health crisis and refer peers to trusted adults.  14 News

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Today, Katie from the UK Cooperative Extension Office in Daviess County presented a demo of potsticker meatloaf that takes 20 minutes to prep and 50 minutes to bake; the segment sponsored by Briarpatch Restaurant showcased a creative twist on a classic meal that works as a game day appetizer.  WOMI Owensboro
  • Owensboro Burger Week returns for its sixth year this March in Daviess County, offering $8 burgers at participating restaurants from March 5 through March 14. A panel of judges and public voters will select winners (including the People's Choice Award) as local chefs showcase fresh recipes.  44 News
