  • Owensboro Times won 42 KPA awards — earning first place in Advertising General Excellence and second place in Editorial General Excellence during its fourth year in the contest.   • Local businesses are hosting The Day of the Dude in downtown Owensboro on March 6 from 5 to 9 p.m. as a Big Lebowski-inspired bar crawl featuring custom White Russian cocktails & a bowling afterparty at Southern Lanes.  The Owensboro Times

  • On Feb. 27, Contour Airlines launched its inaugural nonstop flight from Owensboro Regional Airport to Charlotte — the service runs daily except Tuesdays and Saturdays and began with a water salute from the Daviess County Fire Department.  14 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Owensboro Museum of Science and History is hosting an exhibit honoring Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Moneta Sleet Jr. — his images documented the civil rights movement and the exhibit celebrates his local legacy by running through June.  14 News
  • Three Sasquatch festivals offer Bigfoot fun across the region. Stanton’s Red River Gorge Fest takes place on May 30, Owensboro hosts its first Blue Bridge Squatch Fest on Sept. 26, and downtown Harrisburg will hold the Shawnee Festival on Oct. 3 with vendor + contest activities.  WOMI Owensboro
  • Theatre Workshop invites performers to audition for Our Town at Trinity Centre on March 1 at 2 p.m. and March 2 at 6:30 p.m. (auditioning only once) featuring live music and a live foley artist; the play will be staged at the Empress Theatre from April 24-26 to May 1-3.  The Owensboro Times
  • The 21st‑season Men’s Mass Community Choir (led by Michael Johnson) will kick off its season with two spring concerts (with special guest Tara Estes) at Zion Baptist Church at 3 p.m. on March 29 and at Settle Memorial United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. on April 12.  The Owensboro Times

  • Experts state that the New Madrid Seismic Zone, active near our region, has a 25 to 50 percent chance of a magnitude 6.0 or greater earthquake in the next 50 years, so local residents are advised to review USGS preparation guidelines.  WOMI Owensboro

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Mattingly Target Shooting Range opens this weekend in Maceo off State Route 2830 and will operate Friday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; shooters are asked to bring their gear & a friend.  14 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local wrestlers Kevin Lopez and Jackson Stoner secured a spot in the state tournament finals after winning four intense matches on Friday. Lopez will wrestle Union County’s Peyton Fowler while Stoner faces Union County’s Brennen Clifford in the upcoming final match.  The Owensboro Times
  • Kennedy Lane became the Lady Panthers’ all-time leading scorer on Monday evening when she scored 32 points in the 9th District Tournament game. She now enters the 3rd Region Tournament with 2,484 career points, surpassing Emma Johnson’s record.  The Owensboro Times
  • Wrestler Kali Nichols, a three-time Region 1 champion with a 34-0 record, will compete today with teammates Kaylee Klee (145) and Mariya Meh (235) in the Daviess County state tournament. Weigh-ins are at 8:30 a.m., and the first match starts one hour later.  The Owensboro Times
  • The Owensboro Youth Hockey Association is hosting its annual Blast Bash on Saturday at Edge Ice Center plus the event will run from 8:30 a.m. culminating with a youth championship at 4:30 p.m., featuring a dunk tank, silent auction, food trucks, and fun activities.  The Owensboro Times
