ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gov. Andy Beshear, local leaders and company officials broke ground Monday on Mizkan America's $156 million expansion in Owensboro that will create 44 new jobs and add about 320,000 square feet to its factory. The project will bring new machines, better equipment and computer systems to produce brands like Holland House cooking wine and Nakano rice vinegar for the first time locally+ boost the company's role in Owensboro+ as it builds on its nearly 50-year presence.  The Owensboro Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Owensboro High School's choir now includes its first deaf student—sophomore Matthew Colbert—who uses feeling vibrations and signing to match notes in practice. He will perform at RiverPark Center at the Fine Arts Festival on Wednesday the 19th at 6 p.m.  14 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will start a $3.5 million highway safety project adding a Restricted Crossing U-Turn at Wright’s Landing Road and Hawes Boulevard on U.S. 60 today. Scotty’s Contracting and Stone — LLC will begin milling and paving operations at 6:30 a.m. with lane restrictions on the westbound side as work runs Monday through Friday until mid-November.  Daviess County
  • Today, crews begin a $3.5 million highway safety project along U.S. 60 in Daviess County that will add Restricted Crossing U-Turns at Wright’s Landing and Hawes Boulevard. Lane restrictions on the westbound side (from Monday at 6:30 a.m. until Friday at 3 p.m.) will remain in effect during the work.  14 News
  • The Daviess County Fire Department showed its high angle rope rescue skills at the training tower at the Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport ARFF station—Assistant Chief Eric Coleman and Engineer Sam Henderson led a scenario where firefighters practiced rappelling and a patient pick-off in a stairwell.  Daviess County

SPORTS NEWS

  • The sixth annual Wendell Foster Half Marathon & 5K will take place Saturday, March 22, with runners, walkers, and participants in four divisions racing on a fast, flat downtown course that passes Wendell Foster’s campus at mile one. Owensboro Health presents the event, which has over 900 registrants from 16 states (including 146 cities) as road closures begin at 7 a.m. to ease traffic.  The Owensboro Times
