COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Owensboro will host the 75th National Day of Prayer (May 6 to 7) at RiverPark Center, VFW, Courthouse lawn and National Guard Armory. The program includes live music and remarks from retired Major Jeff Struecker as the community gathers in honor of veterans and faith.  WOMI Owensboro
  • An Owensboro nonprofit, the HUTS Project, celebrated its 100th home dedication today to support disadvantaged families. Founded in 2016 and run by volunteers, it builds homes using donations and partnerships.  14 News
  • Audubon Federal Credit Union in Owensboro will host the 17th Cover the Cruiser event on Friday, April 17 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. to sell $1 stickers for a KSP cruiser that raise funds for Special Olympics Kentucky, with officials aiming to surpass $1,500.  WOMI Owensboro
  • At the It Takes a Village shelter (2620 KY 81), two dogs await adoption: Poseidon, who has waited 600 days, and Gunner, who has been at the shelter nearly two years. Adoption fees are sponsored except for a $15 microchip fee.  WOMI Owensboro

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rock Orchestra by Candlelight returns to RiverPark Center with a 90-minute show that blends rock, metal and classical music; tickets will go on sale Friday, April 10 at 10 a.m. for the performance scheduled on Thursday, November 19 at 8 p.m.  14 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Daviess County Public Schools announced on Friday that Jessica Morris will serve as the new principal at Tamarack Elementary School — she is set to take on her role soon to lead improvements at the school.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer
  • Owensboro Innovation Academy students partnered with the City on the Legion Park Project by cleaning the ice rink indoors at Edge Ice Center due to cold, rainy weather; another group painted a mural at the Parks and Recreation Center in preparation for upcoming summer day camps.  14 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Beshear spoke Friday morning about launching Stopscams.ky.gov, a new website that helps residents report and avoid text, email, and social media scams. The site offers tips to recover from scams after losses amounting to over $70 million in previous years.  WOMI Owensboro

SPORTS NEWS

  • Softball games on March 27 saw Hancock County defeat McLean County 15 to 0, Daviess County beat Page 5 to 1, and Trinity (Whitesville) win 11 to 0 over Breckinridge; Molly Hancock went 2 to 2 with a homer and Ella Morris struck out 13.  The Owensboro Times
