COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Owensboro Flea Market opened Friday at the Convention Center and will run all weekend with over 275 vendor booths selling antiques, collectibles — items include jewelry, home décor, and electronics. Admission is $2 with free parking and free entry for kids 15 and under.  14 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Owensboro police arrested a 13-year-old suspect after a tip led them to a stolen vehicle on Daviess Street—he now faces new charges of three counts of auto theft and two counts of burglary and remains at Warren County Regional Juvenile Detention Center.  44 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • WalletHub’s study ranked three Kentucky colleges among the best—Centre College was named the top liberal arts school in the South, Transylvania University ranked 9th, and Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro came in 10th. The report compared more than 650 schools using measures like tuition, student–faculty ratio, and graduation rates.  WOMI Owensboro

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The IRS extended the deadline for Kentucky tax returns and business filings scheduled from February 14 to November 3 due to February flooding, but taxpayers must still pay a 10% interest charge on payments made after April 15.  WDRB
  • Kentucky lawmakers lowered the minimum age for a driver’s permit from 16 to 15. Gov. Beshear signed the law on March 25—making it effective right away and allowing testing appointments to begin on April 2.  WAVE

HEALTH NEWS

  • Molly Lancaster—an Owensboro Health nurse and forensic coordinator—won the inaugural BRAVE Award from the Kentucky Association of Sexual Assault Programs and New Beginnings for her support of sexual violence survivors. She was unanimously nominated by New Beginnings staff and helped Owensboro Health earn a SANE-ready hospital designation by training nurses in trauma-informed care.  The Owensboro Times

  • Daviess County lost 69-37 to Great Crossing in the state tournament opening round as an 11-0 run set the pace and Malachi Moreno led with 21 points and 17 rebounds.  The Owensboro Times
