COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The main hall of the Owensboro Convention Center was busy Saturday afternoon—many shoppers found bargains at the Owensboro Flea Market.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer
  • 5th and Walnut Thrift Store—known as Thrift with a Purpose—helps shelter residents gain needed items through a voucher program while offering $5 credits for volunteering. The store operates Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and seeks an offsite building to expand community services.  The Owensboro Times
  • Isaac Sterett Adventure Foundation will hold its third annual Operation Community Cleanup on April 26 at 7:30 a.m. at 1010 Allen Street to fight rising litter problems in the community. Teams (including families, businesses, schools and organizations) will compete for awards such as a trash can trophy as they work to make the city cleaner.  The Owensboro Times

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Don Mario’s will take over the restaurant space inside Windridge Country Club — replacing J’s Good Grub, which will close by May 1 to focus on its food truck service — as it expands to reach new customers on the east side. The new location will feature a condensed menu with best-sellers and a full-service bar for both members and the public.  The Owensboro Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Domtar donated $25k to the OCTC Foundation to boost technical education and student resources—allocating $5k for the Trade Wars competition, $10k for a new Craftsman Closet, and $10k for laser alignment equipment in the Industrial Maintenance program. OCTC leaders said the gift is a major investment in preparing students for skilled careers—enhancing practical training and program support.  The Owensboro Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Weather Service warned Owensboro residents that a severe system is moving in today with strong tornadoes — large hail and heavy rain that may cause flash flooding. A second system will bring dangerous storms and prolonged rain midweek that could lead to river flooding.  The Owensboro Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Owensboro residents may see heavy smoke near Bellevue Baptist Church (on Highway 56) at lunch as the Daviess County Fire Department trains with State Fire Rescue Training just west of town. Fire officials said the exercise (a coordinated training burn) is meant to improve emergency response techniques.  14 News
  • The City of Owensboro launched a new website that offers a modern design—improved functionality on cell phones and new tools such as a video header and dedicated pages for City departments like Fire, Police, Public Works and Parks and Recreation. Officials said they will gather feedback from residents to make the site even better.  The Owensboro Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Trinity High School senior Carson Fitzgerald signed a national letter of intent to join Campbellsville University’s bass fishing team—continuing his record of state and national tournament wins. He thanked Coach Miracle, his family and friends during the signing ceremony as he prepares to advance his athletics and studies.  The Owensboro Times
