COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Travis Owsley honors his late mother’s legacy by leading Beverly’s Hearty Slice, which serves three local sites every two weeks and supports about 200 children with meals, hygiene items, and connection. Volunteer Owensboro invites local residents to volunteer or donate (contact 270-903-4682) to help keep this community support program running.  The Owensboro Times
  • At Zion Baptist Church, community members joined the Men’s Mass Community Choir to celebrate its 20-year anniversary and honor Owen's legacy despite some Sunday events being cancelled because of severe weather—an occasion that brought the congregation together.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Aerek Automation, started by Owensboro native Eric Dennison, launched early 2024 to fill a gap with services like machine design, controls integration, and on-site training—helping local factories work better. Dennison, who worked over ten years as an electrical engineer in Bowling Green, said his business has grown steadily—bringing more skilled work to the area.  The Owensboro Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Owensboro native Cam Thompson — an emerging country artist — will release his new single 'Sober Side of Sorry' on April 18, describing it as his most personal work co-written with longtime collaborator Mitchell Douglas and recorded in Nashville last fall. He plans to tour across Kentucky this summer to promote the track.  The Owensboro Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Young Kentuckians can apply for a free weeklong camp offered by the Kentucky State Police Youth Academy Program to develop leadership skills and learn law enforcement principles. The program will be held at Trooper Island Camp on Dale Hollow Lake from July 21—25—applications will be accepted until June 10.  The Owensboro Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today, the Owensboro Times announced its 2025 Girls’ Basketball All-OT team with coaches selecting top players from local high schools — including Apollo, Daviess County, Hancock County, McLean County, Owensboro, Owensboro Catholic and Trinity. The finalists for Girls’ Basketball of the Year will attend an awards ceremony in May when the winner is named.  The Owensboro Times
  • Daviess County won 10-1 over Talawanda from Oxford after scoring eight runs in the bottom of the sixth and Hancock County lost 13-0 to Spencer County. Owensboro beat IMG Academy 4-2 as the Red Devils took an early lead and pitchers Cayden Ray and Will Rickard helped secure the win.  The Owensboro Times
  • The Owensboro Times opened its online vote for OT Players of the Week in Spring 2025 Week 2, asking readers to choose one male and one female player per team. Voting ends at 5 p.m. Wednesday—readers may cast multiple votes to support their favorite athletes.  The Owensboro Times
  • The Owensboro Times announced its 2025 Boys’ Basketball All-OT Team with players chosen from local high schools including Owensboro Catholic, Owensboro, and Daviess County — based on coach votes. It also named Player of the Year finalists who will be honored at an awards ceremony in May — a ceremony that will recognize winners from fall, winter and spring sports.  The Owensboro Times
