COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Students from the BHC program at Owensboro Middle School launched the Neighborly initiative when nonprofit reps spoke at a panel session on March 30 — they will lead an April donation drive to collect food, socks and hygiene products for local shelters.  The Owensboro Times
  • Community members, students, and local leaders meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday on the front steps of the Daviess County Courthouse to mark Child Abuse Prevention Month. Judge Hendricks will give the proclamation and Owensboro Innovation Academy students will plant pinwheels to symbolize safe homes for children.  The Owensboro Times
  • GRABC’s Owensboro site is offering free tax preparation for low- and moderate-income residents with appointments available now and walk-in service on April 15 (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.). The service is provided at 1741 Scherm Drive, Suite B and requires valid ID plus income documents.  The Owensboro Times
  • Rhonda M. Pearson, a longtime associate minister, has been named pastor of Fourth Street Baptist Church (the first female pastor in its 195-year history). A pre-installation service is scheduled for May 16 with her official installation at 3 p.m. on May 17 at Kentucky Wesleyan College.  The Owensboro Times
  • Habitat for Humanity Owensboro-Daviess County honored Rosilyn Douglas on Sunday by presenting her with the key to her new home at the 5th Carter Community Court, ending a three-year journey to homeownership.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer

  • Brett Michaels is set to return to Beaver Dam Amphitheatre on Saturday, Aug. 15 for his 2026 Live & Amplified Tour with Buckcherry joining him. Presale tickets run from April 1, 9 a.m. to April 2, 11:59 p.m. and general tickets start on April 3 at 9 a.m. CDT.  WOMI Owensboro
  • Local band Yellow Banks won the 'Next Rising Star' title Saturday afternoon at Whiskey Row in Nashville & will play the pre-race concert at Nashville Superspeedway ahead of the Cracker Barrel 400 on May 31.   • Bret Michaels will return to Beaver Dam Amphitheater on August 15 as part of his LIVE and Amplified 2026 Tour, with Buckcherry joining as a special guest. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the show will begin at 7 p.m. at 217 S. Main St.  The Owensboro Times

  • Theresa Rowe, a local fitness instructor with over 40 years of experience, was featured in Woman’s World Magazine today to share her method that blends core strengthening with faith.   • Owensboro Public Schools’ SIYA camp returns for its 21st year at Owensboro High School from May 26 to 29 and June 1 to 5 for 4th through 9th graders; registration is open until May 13 and costs 150 dollars, including meals, supplies & a t shirt.  The Owensboro Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials say the right lane of westbound U.S. 60 will be blocked tomorrow for pothole patching from 3:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. The work stretches from the Tamarack Road overpass to near the Carter Road exit.  14 News

  • Deaconess Health System will host Jump Into Nursing on Thursday, Apr. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the pavilion on the third floor of the Orthopedic and Neuroscience Hospital at its Gateway campus — the free event offers interactive stations and career guidance for high school students and families exploring healthcare.  44 News
