CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Owensboro Police responded late last night to reports of gunfire in the 3100 block of Burlew Boulevard over the weekend and quickly arrested a suspect at a nearby apartment after shell casings were found; a 25-year-old man with a gunshot wound went to a hospital for surgery while Kevin Tran from Princeton, Indiana has been charged with assault as the investigation continues. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Calissa J. Whitmore was named the new Executive Director of Theatre Workshop of Owensboro after longtime leader Todd Reynolds retired—she served as education coordinator since 2021 and began acting as a youth. The board selected Whitmore from nearly 30 applicants during a regional search—an open house will be soon held to introduce her to the community. The Owensboro Times
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Stanley Volunteer Fire Department warned residents that major flooding is expected later this week and roads in and out of Stanley may become impassable for several days. NOAA forecasts show water levels rising to 48.5 feet at Evansville—heights not seen since 1937—and officials urge everyone to prepare with at least two weeks of supplies. The Owensboro Times
- ➤ The Ohio River crested at 45 feet Monday evening in Daviess County, sparking nearly 100 water rescues and debris buildup along the Owensboro riverfront. Officials say the river will rise further before falling below flood stage later this week. 44 News
- ➤ The Mattingly Target Shooting Range remains closed this week due to rising floodwater as parks workers sandbagged the floodwall entrances and removed equipment from the building (it is on the north bank of Pup Creek in Maceo). Local officials warn that heavy weekend rains have swollen nearby rivers and the Ohio River is expected to crest Saturday before falling below flood stage on April 16. Daviess County

- ➤ Daviess County requires dogs to be leashed or confined in public areas, with fines from $25 to $50 for first-time offenders and higher penalties for repeat violations.
