COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Two local storm chasers organized a drive for flood victims after heavy rains caused flooding in Butler County and reached out to the county’s Emergency Management Agency for help. Supplies will be accepted at Ritzy's on Hwy 54 (April 18th, 19th and 20th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and local partner Midsouth Squad will join on Saturday and Sunday (bringing a replica from the film Twister and live music).  WOMI Owensboro

CRIME NEWS

  • The Owensboro Police Department arrested repeat drug trafficker Jesse Gonzalez during a Wednesday morning search warrant on West 20th Street, seizing guns, cash, and evidence he destroyed before arrest—he now faces charges including fentanyl trafficking, tampering with evidence, and possession of guns by a felon.  44 News
  • On Tuesday night, detectives from the Daviess County Sheriff's Office—helped by ICE, FBI, Homeland Security, and Kentucky State Police—served search warrants at two eastern Daviess County massage parlors after an eight-month investigation and arrested several suspects, seizing condoms, cash, and records that linked the businesses to illicit sex acts, while authorities expect additional arrests as the probe continues.  14 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Smothers Park in Owensboro is closed due to rising Ohio River water flooding parts of the park—including the playground, concession areas, and riverwalk—and city crews are working on cleanup to decide when it will reopen.  44 News

  • Daviess County Emergency Management Agency is asking residents to email flood damage details, including addresses, date/time, and pictures of affected properties, to help document the impact for FEMA (call 270-685-8448 with questions).  Daviess County

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, the Owensboro Family YMCA received a $208,000 grant to launch an opioid prevention program for local youth and families focused on education and early intervention. The program will integrate opioid prevention lessons into after-school care, summer camps and teen leadership activities and will work with local health and law enforcement professionals to build resilience against opioid misuse.  The Owensboro Times
