Food for the Soul, a grassroots initiative started by Charisse Varner, is serving hot meals across Owensboro again; volunteers now prepare meals at the Salvation Army & deliver food monthly to Tent City and extended-stay sites while the group works toward nonprofit status and seeks additional volunteers and storage space.

The Daviess County Animal Shelter will complete a new dog walking area for volunteers next week, enhancing its service for local residents.

Whitesville Mercantile will celebrate its 10th anniversary on Saturday, June 6 at 9935 West Street in Whitesville – a short drive from Owensboro.

The event will run from 9 to 5 and feature live music, giveaways, a new wellness stage, food, and family fun.

Firefighters responded shortly before 8 a.m. Friday when a carport caught fire at 7600-block of Highway 2830 after a homeowner finished mowing, and they quickly extinguished the flames before the blaze spread to a nearby garage.
