COMMUNITY NEWS

  • City officials are exploring a phased plan to upgrade English Park along the riverfront with new recreational amenities (a playground and designated food truck space) aimed at easing scheduling conflicts at nearby Smothers Park. A detailed outline will be presented for public input in coming months.  The Owensboro Times
  • Owensboro residents can join the Walk Owensboro Spring Kick-Off on Apr. 28 at Legion Park from 4 to 5:30 p.m. to enjoy group walks, snacks, family activities, and giveaways as part of a community-wide effort to boost fitness and connection.  The Owensboro Times
  • Ed Hoskins, 80, has served our community for 60 years from patrol duty to court security at the Daviess County Sheriff's Office (he was honored at a county banquet earlier this year). He may retire soon to spend more time with his family.  The Owensboro Times
  • Morning Pointe of Owensboro Assisted Living will host a free Spring Fling event on April 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its facility at 3362 Buckland Square, offering spring-themed activities such as a petting zoo, interactive games & a cake walk for families.  The Owensboro Times
  • Tamarack Carnival, a longstanding school event that would have celebrated its 63rd year in May along Tamarack Road, has been discontinued due to rising operational costs and lower attendance; school officials said the difficult decision paves the way for new traditions & fresh opportunities for students.  WOMI Owensboro

  • Mitch Settle (managing director at Baird Private Wealth Management) has been named on the 2026 Forbes Best In State Wealth Advisors list for his 40-year career serving Kentucky families and business owners. The recognition honors his commitment to long-term financial planning, transparency, and relationship-based advising.  The Owensboro Times
  • Owensboro native and retired Army veteran Danny Goodwin runs Top Dog Concessions, a food trailer serving flame‐grilled all‐beef hot dogs and local favorites at festivals and downtown events. His plan lets him set a schedule and involve his grandkids (they help out) to stay connected to the community.  The Owensboro Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Friday After 5 released its 30th anniversary lineup for the free summer concert series, which will run from May 15 through August 7 on the downtown riverfront — the schedule features national touring acts, regional favorites, and themed nights like America 250 and Back to School Bash.  44 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Owensboro native Kate Rhoads, a NASA fellow and DCHS graduate (class of 2019), is studying how heat shield materials work to protect the Artemis II spacecraft. She will travel to Houston this summer for 10 weeks to review post-flight data.  The Owensboro Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Owensboro Knights Christian Homeschool Program, launched in 2018 for basketball, now gives homeschool athletes chances to play baseball, softball, volleyball, and boys’ soccer in a growing local scene — officials say plans include starting girls’ basketball and a local football league soon.  The Owensboro Times
  • More than 100 athletes from western and southern Kentucky will compete at the 5th annual Special Olympics swim meet at Owensboro Health Park on Saturday. Opening ceremonies start at 9:30 a.m. (developmental events begin at 9:45 a.m.), and the event qualifies swimmers for the Kentucky State Swim Meet.  The Owensboro Times
