COMMUNITY NEWS

  • BBQ & Barrels returns downtown next month with bourbon tastings on May 9 and 10—organizers announced nearly 40 distilleries including Buffalo Trace, Maker’s Mark, and Angel’s Envy, and tickets for the Bourbon Experience start at $70 while carnival rides and BBQ for kids add extra fun. This event sets the stage for a lively downtown celebration.  14 News
  • City crews began cleaning up Smothers Park early this morning after heavy floodwaters left the area messy. Officials reported that Veterans Way and Children's Park reopened Tuesday afternoon—teams are still working to remove mud, debris and damaged turf before fully restoring the park.  14 News
  • Educators and administrators across Daviess County have joined with DCPS to set up donation sites at every school to help flood victims after recent floods damaged homes and property. Donations of water, non-perishable food, hygiene products and other essentials can be dropped off during regular school hours—this drive shows local support for those in need.  The Owensboro Times

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A man was in critical condition after his vehicle was swept off the road by floodwater in western Daviess County and he was taken to an Evansville hospital Wednesday evening.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Daviess County Conservation District will give out over 3,000 tree seedlings at Yellow Creek Park at 5710 Kentucky Highway 144 on Thursday, April 24, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. or until supplies run out—each person is limited to 10 seedlings.  Daviess County

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials said a project to replace an 83-year-old bridge over Panther Creek in Petit will start today and last 6 to 8 months as lane closures on U.S. 431 may delay drivers. Demolition will begin in two weeks and crews will work on one side at a time — allowing traffic to use the other lane.  14 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Owensboro Parks and Recreation announced free yoga and Tai Chi classes at Smothers Park to help boost physical and mental well-being. The yoga sessions will run from April 29 through June 3 on Tuesdays from 6 p.m.—7 p.m. and Tai Chi sessions will run from April 25 through May 30 on Fridays from 11 a.m.—noon.  14 News
