  • Impact100 Owensboro announced it will award $221k in 2026 grants to local nonprofits—while its NextGen program will distribute an extra $8k. Eligible groups can apply through June 3.  The Owensboro Times
  • Saving Paws Animal Rescue of Kentucky hosts its ninth annual Bark in Style fundraiser tomorrow at the Grand Stable Event Venue on KY 144 to aid rescue work. The event features dinner, a cocktail hour, a runway show, and an online silent auction — set in a rustic space.  The Owensboro Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kathryn 'Katy' Harrison was named principal at Sorgho Elementary School on Thursday and will start on July 1. She plans to build strong relationships with students, staff + families to promote academic success.  The Owensboro Times
  • At the Owensboro Air Show, students attended a STEM event featuring expert talks and aircraft tours (including a C-130) to spark interest in aviation careers; Emmett Brock, a former Apollo student, served as a special guest on the panel.  44 News
  • Nearly 500 high school juniors and seniors attended Construction Career Day last Thursday at the former Party City building on Villa Point, where industry professionals demonstrated skilled trades like electrical and HVAC work (selected by local schools). ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Owensboro Parks & Recreation is launching the Equitable Urban Canopy Initiative today to expand and maintain the city’s tree canopy across 10 park locations including Chautauqua, Legion and Waymond Morris parks, using an $84,303 federal grant to improve tree health and safety—supporting healthier neighborhoods.  44 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • A free event in the Logsdon Community Center will offer eating disorder awareness resources and expert talks on May 12 (5:30-7:30 p.m.). The event is hosted by the University of Louisville’s Clinical and Translational Research Center with Aubrey’s Song Foundation for Eating Disorders and is limited to 60 participants.  The Owensboro Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Apollo track and field claimed victory in both the boys and girls meets on Tuesday evening at the Hancock County meet, winning 16 events. Hancock County placed second, McLean County third, Trinity (Whitesville) fourth, and Cloverport finished fifth.  The Owensboro Times
  • At regional play on April 24, Daviess County tennis teams outscored Edmonson County with the Lady Panthers posting dominant singles and doubles wins (including Emmie Kate William’s 8-0 singles match) while the boys secured a key rematch victory. The contest showcased strong seasonal performance.  The Owensboro Times
