COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Owensboro nonprofit Wendell Foster is hosting a Spring Yard Sale on May 2 and May 3 from 7 a.m. to noon to raise money for Christmas and birthday gifts for its residents—donations of any items except clothes and shoes are accepted and shoppers can also buy lunch for $7.  14 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Wonder Whip, an Owensboro restaurant celebrating 70 years, will open a second location on the corner of Frederica Street & Park Plaza Drive. Construction is underway and the new building is expected to open for business as early as summer.  14 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said it is working to take down fake toll texts that threaten drivers and stressed it will never send a toll bill by text—warning those scammed to report the incident to banks and law enforcement. The agency is focusing on shutting down bogus websites and ensuring drivers know not to pay these false fee requests.  WOMI Owensboro
  • The City of Owensboro and its Fire Department are holding a dedication ceremony at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the Walter Freeman Fire Training Center where firefighters will perform a live training demonstration using the new tower. The state-of-the-art center includes a classroom, a four-story modular tower, and live burn rooms — part of a $30 million initiative begun in 2023 to modernize local facilities.  14 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • On April 25th, Windy Hollow Dragway hosted a no prep test and tune event on its 1/8 mile track with drivers making unlimited passes from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Today, the dragway will hold its Street Car Shootout sponsored by Evansville Auto Care Center + Crowley Automotive, featuring trophy races, kids’ competitions, eliminations beginning at 5 p.m. and general admission at $12 for adults with free entry for ages 12 and under.  14 News
