COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Twin Rivers Nursing and Rehab at 2420 W. 3rd St. has served Owensboro for decades by offering long-term care, respite care and rehabilitation, even though it was cited for 23 violations that have harmed or could harm residents. Growth since hiring a new CEO in September 2023 has raised its census—staff now plans community events.  The Owensboro Times
  • Families and community leaders gathered Sunday evening at the Owensboro National Guard Armory to honor nearly 40 high school seniors from western Kentucky and southern Indiana who enlisted to serve in the military—Cathy Mullins organized the first Our Community Salutes ceremony to publicly thank these young service members and their families in memory of her son Brandon.  The Owensboro Times

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Clay Powell and his wife Annie grew a small hemp farm into Experimental Farms by switching from selling raw biomass to making products like gummies, bath bombs, and balms on their Philpot farm while they live in Bowling Green. They hand-harvest about 1,000 plants each year, send them for oil processing in a licensed kitchen for sale in about 20 local stores including Crazy Me in Owensboro— and will start the hemp season in late May.  The Owensboro Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Boston Terrier Club of America is hosting its 130th National Specialty event from today until May 2 at the Owensboro Convention Center with competitions in conformation, agility, obedience and more, attracting top-tier dogs and visitors from across the nation — local leaders say the event highlights Owensboro’s welcoming facilities and vibrant riverfront.  The Owensboro Times

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • The Handsome Cat Café — Owensboro’s first cat café — will open soon to offer visitors coffee, snacks and a chance to meet adoptable cats from SPARKY. More details about the location and coffee partner will be announced later.  WOMI Owensboro

SPORTS NEWS

  • Owensboro Senior High graduate Dartanyan Tinsley signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Browns on Sunday and played left guard during his three years with the Cincinnati Bearcats to help bolster their offensive line for the upcoming season.  14 News
  • Owensboro Catholic lost 3-2 to Lyon County in the All A Classic Baseball Championship after trailing 3-1 in the top of the seventh—Lyon County made a key defensive play that ended the Aces' late rally. The team will host Muhlenberg County Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. after winning four of their last six games.  The Owensboro Times
  • Trinity beat Wolfe County 8-3 in the quarterfinals but lost 6-0 to Livingston Central in the All A Classic semi-finals — Livingston Central later won the championship by defeating Ballard Memorial 12-0.  The Owensboro Times
