  • Owensboro's National Day of Prayer events begin May 6 at RiverPark Center, where retired Army Major Jeff Struecker—of Black Hawk Down fame—will share his faith story and lead Q&A. The events continue May 7 with a veterans' breakfast, Courthouse Lawn prayer service, and a ceremony honoring high school seniors enlisting.  WOMI Owensboro
  • Ticket sales for the Hadi Shrine Half Pot raffle are ongoing from April 28 until May 3, with the prize now at $69,000 and the drawing set for May 5 + tickets are available at booths on Westside, Northside, Eastside, Southside, downtown, Newburgh, Princeton, and Jasper.  WOMI Owensboro

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Owensboro will host its second downtown small biz crawl on Thursday, May 14, filling the streets with shopping, dining + live music where qualifying purchases earn entries for cash prizes and celebrate National Small Business Month.  14 News
  • Goodwood Brewing Co. was ordered to pay over $99k after a judge ruled the company failed to pay rent, loan fees, and other charges for its downtown Owensboro location. The judgment was entered on April 27 and a hearing on the temporary restraining order is set for April 30.  The Owensboro Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • WKU honored 337 graduates Tuesday night — red yard signs reading 'HOME OF A WKU GRAD' were displayed on the front lawn of the Humanities Building at Owensboro Community and Technical College main campus. The event celebrated their achievement and dedication to higher learning.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer
  • Owensboro Public Schools' music program was honored nationally for excellence in fine arts, continuing a long tradition of outstanding arts education in the district.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer
  • Independence Bank awarded more than 60 scholarships at its 25th annual Scholarship Reception on Tuesday night at Frederica Street. The event recognized local student achievements and supported community efforts.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Hummingbirds are returning to local backyards as spring blooms develop, and residents can attract these busy birds by planting native trees, shrubs, and perennials — a mix that offers nectar and insects through the season. Purdue University recommends staggered bloom times to keep birds visiting daily.  WOMI Owensboro

SPORTS NEWS

  • Daviess County teammates Gavin Howard and Cameron Rickard have signed to play baseball at Campbellsville University, where Howard will study business management and Rickard will study physical therapy (each enriching their sport). Their commitment shows a drive to stay close to home and succeed on campus.  The Owensboro Times
  • Daviess County tennis teams swept Apollo 9-0 as both boys and girls squads won all their matches ahead of the 3rd Region Tournament today. Head Coach Dylan McDuffee praised the strong doubles plays that drove the victory.  The Owensboro Times
