  • Oscar’s Cantina Mexicana on Owensboro’s east side exceeded expectations in its first year and is set to offer festive Cinco de Mayo specials today. The restaurant at 4431 Springhill Drive will serve special deals (Arroz con Pollo for $6.95, half-priced lime margaritas, and $4 tall beers) to celebrate the holiday.  The Owensboro Times
  • Edilmar and Sulie Villanueva opened a second food truck called La Michoacana de Owensboro on May 1, serving homemade ice cream, paletas, and other traditional Mexican treats near Dollar Tree on West Parrish Avenue. The couple, who has run a taco truck for seven years, runs the new venture with help from their family — a sign of strong local support.  The Owensboro Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Independence Bank awarded 71 Kentucky high school seniors a total of $139,400 in scholarships through its 2025 program, with awards ranging from $500 to $15,000. More than 460 students applied from counties including local Owensboro schools—top winners received $15,000, $10,000, or $5,000.  TriStateHomepage.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • Classic cars have arrived in Owensboro—about 80 vintage vehicles from across the country—to prepare for the Coker Tire Great Race Spring Rally. The race is set to start in June.  The Owensboro Times
  • Owensboro native Jeff Berry raced his colt Flying Mohawk at the Kentucky Derby on Saturday in rainy and muddy conditions, finishing 12th out of 19 horses—he said the ride was worth the experience and he will try to bring a horse next year.  The Owensboro Times
  • George Randolph, the longtime Owensboro Catholic softball coach, was inducted into the Dawahares/KHSAA Hall of Fame on Sunday at the Central Bank Center Ballroom in Lexington. His 22-season career produced five state titles — a group effort that honored the support of players, parents and fellow coaches.  The Owensboro Times
