BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Sorting Sisters, a family-founded organizing business that began in late summer 2021, help locals with home decluttering, office organization, and packing services. They will expand to include donation pickup and boost digital marketing while strengthening partnerships — notably with Big John Moving Company.  The Owensboro Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kentucky Wesleyan College announced that it will add STUNT, men’s and women’s cross country as NCAA Division II programs and launch club sports in archery, trap & skeet beginning in the 2027-28 academic year. College officials say the expansion will attract new student-athletes and boost campus events in Owensboro.  The Owensboro Times
  • Brescia University and Southern Star announced a scholarship program that will award three ($10,000) scholarships to juniors and seniors majoring in computer science, business, finance, or accounting beginning in fall 2026. The program will also offer mentorship and internship opportunities to support our local workforce.  The Owensboro Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Daviess County Detention Center is honoring staff during Correctional Officers Week with shift briefings and meals. The center recognized Brandon Allen as Deputy Jailer of the Year, Sergeant Nicholas Tierney as Supervisor of the Year, and Nicole Flores as Administrative Deputy of the Year during the week.  The Owensboro Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Merchant Centre Court will host a Triples Extravaganza on Saturday, May 23 from 10am to 12:30pm on its outdoor + indoor courts to celebrate National Tennis Month. Registration is open through May 20 for team sign-ups.  WOMI Owensboro
  • On May 4, Apollo edged Trinity from Whitesville 4-2 with Mollie Julian pitching seven innings and key runs from Annsley Hall and Keelan Wettstain, while Hancock County blanked Breckinridge County 10-0 with Bella Bryant’s homer and four RBIs.  The Owensboro Times
  • Local baseball games on May 4 showed Owensboro beat Muhlenberg County six to four while teams from Hancock, McLean and Trinity lost. In other matchups, Henderson County won eleven to one over Hancock County, Breckinridge County edged McLean County three to two and Webster County defeated Trinity ten to three.  The Owensboro Times
  • The Owensboro Baseball Committee, chaired by Kenneth Burns, is exploring a plan to build a multipurpose Frontier League stadium (to host a professional baseball team and community events) and has begun talks with league and government officials to assess its feasibility in Owensboro.  WOMI Owensboro
  • Owensboro Times will host the annual OT Sports Awards ceremony on May 17 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital auditorium to honor high school student-athletes, coaches and academic achievers from the 2025-26 seasons — businesses may sponsor awards for added event promotion.  The Owensboro Times
