  • Daviess County Park and Rec is hosting its second annual Touch-A-Truck event at Panther Creek Park on May 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., where families can learn about vehicles and heavy equipment from officials representing public safety agencies, utilities & local companies.  14 News
  • CAROLINE, a gentle Pit Bull rescued as a stray, is now available for adoption at It Takes a Village—she has received veterinarian care, vaccinations, and treatment to help her adjust to new surroundings.  WOMI Owensboro
  • This weekend, bargain hunters in Owensboro can explore local yard and garage sales including the Twin Lakes Neighborhood Sale starting Friday at 7 a.m. and the multi-family sale at 4741 Medley Road on Saturday, both offering clothes & antiques.   • Habitat for Humanity Owensboro-Daviess County will hold a 'Name Your Price' warehouse sale on Saturday at 8 a.m. at 2930 West 4th Street — items will be sold on a first come first serve basis to clear space for new building materials funded by a grant.  14 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Encore Musicals will debut 9 to 5: The Musical at Jack T. Wells Activity Center in Owensboro this weekend, with a performance today at 7 p.m., Saturday at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m.—tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for youth. The musical is based on the 1980 film and features music and lyrics by Dolly Parton.  44 News
  • Bishop Medley of the Owensboro Diocese said he was surprised by the election of U.S.-born Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost as the new pope—now known as Pope Leo XIV. He added that local Catholic leaders watched the historic white smoke moment and expect details on the Vatican's voting process to come in the days ahead.  The Owensboro Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Matthew Dunlay, a senior at Daviess County High School, was named a finalist in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program and earned a scholarship to attend Yale University where he will study Statistics and Data Science—he also plans to join the Air Force ROTC next fall.  14 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Daviess County Fiscal Court heard the first reading of a balanced $110.2 million budget for 2025-26 that keeps property tax rates steady, avoids new debt and new taxes, and matches revenue with appropriations. A motion to add $500,000 for drainage maintenance failed (2-2 vote) and further discussions will continue with a second reading set for June 5.  The Owensboro Times
