- ➤ The Opportunity Center will celebrate 70 years of service on May 15 from noon to 1 p.m. at its facility at 1101 East Byers Avenue — the event features a ceremonial ribbon-cutting and tours to mark its enduring growth and legacy. The Owensboro Times
- ➤ Saving Paws Animal Rescue (of Kentucky) rescued six puppies and their father after Daviess County Animal Control found them living in a UHaul truck; the dogs got baths on Thursday and will receive veterinary care soon. 14 News

- ➤ Tourism professionals and meeting planners from 25 states will gather in Owensboro on May 13-14 for the Small Market Summit organized by the Daviess County Convention and Visitors Bureau. - ➤ The YMCA of Owensboro will expand its daycare center with an $850,000 state award, increasing capacity from 90 to 161 children. Governor Beshear said the move is part of more than $6 million in funding to improve childcare in Daviess County. 14 News
- ➤ A Kentucky National Guard helicopter landed on the front lawn at Daviess County High School at 12:00 p.m. Friday and gave students a chance to explore the controls and learn about new career paths while the school planned for emergency response. 14 News
- ➤ Cassidy Stewart, a first-year fourth-grade teacher at Cravens Elementary, was honored today as the 2026 New Teacher of the Year from the Green River Regional Educational Cooperative. The award comes with a full scholarship to GRREC’s Empower Academy and is one of only two given statewide. 14 News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Daviess County reached a deal with AMR — its ambulance service provider — and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield so patients will not face out of network fees for ambulance rides. The agreement took effect on April 1, meaning rides after that date are covered under regular rates. 14 News

- ➤ Maui’s Indoor Theme Park is now open at Town Square Mall (in Owensboro) and offers arcade games, rides, mini golf and more for families to enjoy rain or shine. The general manager said expansion plans are on the horizon. 14 News
