COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Precious Blood Church will host the BBQ & Barrels festival in Downtown Owensboro where food trucks, chefs, and church groups serve barbecue, bourbon and live music. The event ran Friday from noon to 10 and is ongoing today from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with proceeds aiding a tuition program.  14 News
  • The Opportunity Center will celebrate 70 years of service on May 15 from noon to 1 p.m. at its facility at 1101 East Byers Avenue — the event features a ceremonial ribbon-cutting and tours to mark its enduring growth and legacy.  The Owensboro Times
  • Saving Paws Animal Rescue (of Kentucky) rescued six puppies and their father after Daviess County Animal Control found them living in a UHaul truck; the dogs got baths on Thursday and will receive veterinary care soon.  14 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new Dollar General store is planned for KY 144 in Knottsville as permits have been issued for a 10,640 sqft building costing $1.38 million — groundwork is underway although no construction timeline is set.  The Owensboro Times

  • The Spring Vintage Vibes Market will return on May 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Lot Food Truck Park + Events at 900 East 4th Street, offering vendors vintage clothing, handmade goods, local food trucks, and crafted cocktails in an open-air setting for all ages.  The Owensboro Times

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Tourism professionals and meeting planners from 25 states will gather in Owensboro on May 13-14 for the Small Market Summit organized by the Daviess County Convention and Visitors Bureau. The event will showcase local attractions and strategies to boost tourism and economic growth.  The Owensboro Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The YMCA of Owensboro will expand its daycare center with an $850,000 state award, increasing capacity from 90 to 161 children. Governor Beshear said the move is part of more than $6 million in funding to improve childcare in Daviess County.  14 News
  • A Kentucky National Guard helicopter landed on the front lawn at Daviess County High School at 12:00 p.m. Friday and gave students a chance to explore the controls and learn about new career paths while the school planned for emergency response.  14 News
  • Cassidy Stewart, a first-year fourth-grade teacher at Cravens Elementary, was honored today as the 2026 New Teacher of the Year from the Green River Regional Educational Cooperative. The award comes with a full scholarship to GRREC’s Empower Academy and is one of only two given statewide.  14 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Daviess County reached a deal with AMR — its ambulance service provider — and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield so patients will not face out of network fees for ambulance rides. The agreement took effect on April 1, meaning rides after that date are covered under regular rates.  14 News

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Maui’s Indoor Theme Park is now open at Town Square Mall (in Owensboro) and offers arcade games, rides, mini golf and more for families to enjoy rain or shine. The general manager said expansion plans are on the horizon.  14 News

  • Owensboro Catholic senior Xavier Maddox signed with Gardner-Webb University this past Wednesday after a breakout game against Bowling Green; he plans to boost his speed, routes & strength while pursuing pre-med studies at Gardner-Webb.  The Owensboro Times
