- ➤ Last Friday, thousands gathered in Downtown Owensboro for the annual BBQ and Barrels festival that celebrated slow-cooked barbecue and bourbon tastings—showing a strong local tradition. City officials said the new bourbon element has brought people closer, spurring friendly cooking events among community teams—fitting Owensboro's heritage. 14 News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Kentucky Wesleyan College announced a guaranteed admission program for qualified students from Daviess and Hancock counties that will begin Fall 2026. The program will automatically grant admission to students who meet academic requirements—making it easier for high school graduates to move on to college. 14 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Daviess County Fiscal Court designated May as High School Hero Month to honor the 2025 graduating class, which includes 33 students from Apollo, Daviess County, Owensboro High, Owensboro Innovation Academy, Owensboro Catholic and Trinity who each gave blood at least four times—each donation can save up to three lives. Chloe Ewing received a $1,000 scholarship with Preston Pruitt and Elijah Roberts as finalists, and the Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center processes all of the lifesaving blood used in Daviess County. - ➤ The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office has equipped every patrol cruiser with an AED through donations from local businesses. Patrol Division Commander Captain Duane Harper—who began the effort over a year ago—said the new devices will help save lives until an ambulance arrives. 14 News
