- ➤ City officials announced that Veterans Boulevard from Frederica Street to Locust Street will close at 2 p.m. and West 2nd St. from Allen Street to St. Ann Street will close at 5 p.m. on Friday for downtown events—all streets will reopen Saturday morning. 14 News
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A deputy was hurt in Daviess County tonight while chasing 18-year-old Christian Crite — wanted for Navy desertion and charges of fleeing police, assault, wanton endangerment and criminal mischief — after a 911 call reported an assault at a home on Fields Road near Thruston; officers later found him asleep at the scene and arrested him, and the injured deputy is expected to return to work in about two weeks. 44 News

- ➤ Downtown Owensboro will unveil a new public art mural on May 17 that celebrates the city’s identity as the Bluegrass Music Capital of the World. Eight artists contributed original work to the rotating display set up outside 214 Frederica Street near the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame — the project is sponsored by the Owensboro Bluegrass Initiative and the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Young Professionals. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Wednesday, the Housing Authority of Owensboro completed a $52 million renovation at Churchill Park Apartments that converted 248 units in 58 buildings into Section 8 housing, including 20 accessible units and now houses 601 residents. The project updated kitchens, plumbing, and ventilation—allowing residents to shift units during construction and setting the stage for reinvestment in five other affordable housing properties. - ➤ FEMA approved Individual Assistance for Daviess, McLean, Hancock and Ohio counties after flooding in April, following Gov. Andy Beshear’s request. Residents with damage to their main home can apply online, by phone, or via the mobile app for help with housing, repairs, and loans — local recovery centers will soon open to assist with in-person applications.
