- ➤ A yard sale guide for the weekend is out with events in Thorobred Acres and nearby areas — including neighborhood, multi-family, and indoor sales offering items from clothing to collectibles. - ➤ Touch-A-Truck 2025 will take place at Panther Creek Park this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., letting families explore fire engines, buses and heavy equipment including a helicopter. - ➤ An assault call on Tuesday near Thruston led to a search that injured a deputy and on Wednesday May 14th police arrested Christian Crite—accused of assault, desertion, fleeing police, wanton endangerment and criminal mischief—at a residence on Field Road. Owensboro Radio
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Daviess County Public Schools Board of Education approved a 3% raise and added a personal day for all eligible staff for the 2025‑26 school year, so employees will have three personal days annually instead of two. Board members said the measure, designed to aid teacher recruitment and retention, is the best they can offer without raising taxes. The Owensboro Times
- ➤ On Thursday, Apollo High School seniors in Owensboro announced their post-graduation plans as some plan to enter the workforce & others will join the military or attend college. They shared mixed feelings, looking forward to new opportunities while knowing they will miss their friends. 14 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City and County leaders invite Owensboro and Daviess County residents to share ideas on improving the 25-year Metropolitan Transportation Plan at a public meeting held today at the Green River Area Development District from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A follow-up meeting will be held on May 27 at the Daviess County Public Library—short-range projects for 2026 to 2031 include reconstructions on Fairview Drive, Thurston-Dermont Road, and KY-54 while long-range plans cover a new I-165 interchange and the rebuilding of U.S. 60 and U.S. 231 at Maceo. - ➤ Today, Owensboro Municipal Utilities approved a $133 million budget and business plan for 2025-26, unchanged from the May 1 proposal — it includes $113 million in operating revenue and over $20 million in capital funding for electric and water systems. The utility plans to secure long-term power contracts, start a cost-of-service study, and continue infrastructure improvements to support essential services. The Owensboro Times
