COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Owensboro Parks and Recreation announced that Combest Pool, Cravens Pool and all three City Spray Parks will open Saturday, May 24 to kick off summer.  14 News
  • Owensboro Parks and Recreation officials announced today that construction has begun on a new playground at York Park as the old equipment is being demolished—this modern play space will offer a safe and fun area for children and families while the rest of the park stays open. The project will finish in the coming weeks depending on the weather.  14 News
  • Local school districts will provide free meals for anyone under 18 during summer break at fixed locations and mobile stops starting May 21, with Daviess County Public Schools hosting its Summer Feeding Kickoff on May 23 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Meals must be eaten on site+ drive-through pickup is no longer available.  The Owensboro Times

  • Virginia Hardesty opened Displaced Pages — a new book and record store — in downtown Owensboro on Saturday across from Dee’s Diner. The family-run shop offers affordable books, vinyl records, local art and a cozy reading area and drew many visitors with a packed parking lot at its grand opening.  WOMI Owensboro

  • Apollo High School in Owensboro graduated the class of 2025 with Rabia Hanafi, Shoaib Hanafi and Omid Hanafi (whose family fled Afghanistan in 2021) joining the ceremony.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer

  • Local officials announced that free spray parks and splash pads plus fee-based public pools in Daviess County will open on May 24 for Memorial Day weekend fun.
