COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Lions Club of Owensboro announced a $25,000 sponsorship to Habitat for Humanity to help fund a new home at Carter Community Court for a local family with a vision-impaired child. The funds will cover much of the materials and labor costs as the home is built with accessibility features to support the child's needs.  14 News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Fire officials responded Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. to a call at Ole South Bar-B-Q on Highway 54 after smoke and flames were seen coming from its chimney over the pits — crews used sweeps and chains to clear burning debris and ventilate smoke as support arrived from Thruston-Philpot and Masonville, with no injuries reported.  44 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Owensboro artists and creatives will gather at the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden this Thursday from 6-8 p.m. for a free Artist Mixer organized by the Owensboro Arts Team — with support from the Harwood Institute and Greater Owensboro Leadership Institute — to help local talent connect and share ideas.  The Owensboro Times
  • The Netflix documentary Air Force Elite: Thunderbirds premiered May 23 and shows viewers the training and maneuvers of the famed aerobatic team. Owensboro will host an Air Show from September 11–13, 2026 with the Thunderbirds headlining — following the 2024 event that featured the U.S. Navy Blue Angels.  WOMI Owensboro

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources warns locals not to approach a lone fawn because a doe is likely foraging nearby — the agency cautions that interfering with wildlife may result in a citation under 301 KAR 2:081. Residents are advised to leave the fawns undisturbed until the mother returns.  WOMI Owensboro

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials announced that a presidential disaster declaration is allowing the USDA Farm Service Agency to offer emergency loans to farmers recovering from April floods, and these loans can be used for equipment replacement, livestock, farm reorganization, or debt refinancing—covering selected counties in Kentucky and Indiana. Farmers are advised to check their local USDA Service Center and use the Disaster Assistance tools online, with application deadlines on December 24 and January 14.  TriStateHomepage.com
