  • Residents and Chamber of Commerce members gathered for a ribbon cutting at 5 p.m. Thursday at the renovated Wingate by Wyndham hotel on Bon Harbor Hill Drive, and owner Sunny Patel thanked the community for their support—marking the start of fresh local hospitality.  TriStateHomepage.com

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire at Davco Personal Care Home on West 10th Street displaced 89 residents early Thursday morning, but no injuries were reported as staff and firefighters quickly controlled the blaze and moved everyone to a sister facility in Bowling Green—investigation is underway to find the cause.  The Owensboro Times
  • The Owensboro Fire Department responded to a structure fire on West 10th Street early Wednesday morning—officials are still investigating details.  44 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Owners Edilmar and Sulie Villanueva will open a permanent La Michoacana de Owensboro shop on KY 54 mid-June, offering their homemade ice cream and traditional Mexican treats in a space that once housed The Peach Cobbler Factory—featuring indoor seating and a drive-thru. The new location lets them expand the menu they served through food trucks for seven years and create a family-friendly spot for the community.  The Owensboro Times

CRIME NEWS

  • On May 28, a DCSO deputy chased a 20-year-old man driving a black 2016 Cadillac CTS at 74 mph in a 35 mph zone on Old Hartford Road, and after the vehicle stopped with marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a large sum of U.S. currency found, the suspect—Trevor L. Aull from 4001 Mt. Vernon Drive—was arrested on multiple charges.  The Owensboro Times
  • Daviess County deputies arrested Trevor Aull after he sped at 74 mph in a 35 mph zone on Old Hartford Road and threw items from his vehicle before stopping when officers found marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a large sum of money in his possession.  14 News

  • Hundreds of American flags will be retired in a flag burning service at Panther Creek Park in Owensboro on June 14 at about 5 p.m.—residents can drop off unserviceable flags at the park or take them to the VFW Post on the riverfront as directed by the Daviess County Fiscal Court.  TriStateHomepage.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today at the Tennis State Championships, Owensboro Catholic's Ella Cason nearly beat state champion Sydney Zakic in a tight match, earning her All-State honor as the school posted strong play on the girls’ side while the boys saw some wins too. Coach Noel Clayton said the team exceeded expectations and now gears up for the upcoming team competition — a promising sign for future tournaments.  The Owensboro Times
