COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Blackberry Smoke will headline the inaugural Stomp and Holler festival at Beaver Dam Amphitheater on Oct. 2-3—this two-day event offers live music, camping, food, bourbon tasting and more to support local youth programs, with early bird weekend passes available 9 a.m. June 3.  The Owensboro Times
  • The inaugural Owensboro Hot Dog Week will kick off on June 27 at The Lot on Fourth (with about 30 local businesses) and run through July 5, offering specialty hot dogs, dessert contests, and fundraising for local veterans.  The Owensboro Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • RiverPark Center will host the third annual Bourbon and Bags for Broadway event on Thursday, Aug. 20 at 6:30 p.m. and will support arts education with premium bourbon tastings, bite-sized foods, and an auction featuring rare bottles and designer handbags. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Monday morning, a large group of young children gathered in the First Christian Church cafeteria for Estes Bulldog art camp to paint with watercolors and build their art skills.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer
  • Brescia University was granted Accreditation-Provisional status for its new Physician Assistant Program by ARC-PA, paving the way for 30 students to begin classes in August — a milestone that supports local efforts to expand healthcare education.  The Owensboro Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials and center leaders say the future use of the West Second Street building remains undecided as the new facility near the Botanical Garden opens in September; the building still serves Meals on Wheels (lease until mid-2028) and proposals on its use will follow the move.  The Owensboro Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Owensboro Fire Department today launched a video featuring a CPR playlist with songs tailored to 100-120 beats per minute (including Stayin' Alive and Baby Shark) to guide proper chest compressions during emergencies.   • RiverValley Behavioral Health received $253,169 from the Kentucky Opioid Abatement Advisory Commission to expand services for children + families impacted by substance use in western Kentucky. LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • This week, Seize the Deal offers new food truck cards in Owensboro & Evansville for $30 that let residents get $15 at local trucks over a full year. The Owensboro card covers six trucks while the Evansville card includes five, ensuring diverse dining options for food lovers.  WOMI Owensboro
  • The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will host its annual free fishing weekend on June 6-7, letting residents and visitors fish without a license while all size and catch rules remain in place (private waters require permission).
