COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Owensboro Regional Farmers’ Market began its summer season with a “Taste of the Market” event where local chefs prepared dishes using fresh ingredients—Chef Nicholas Payne from Callas Tavern made smoked chipotle pork tacos. The market will run every other Thursday evening in June and July from 4 to 7 p.m. to welcome community members.  14 News
  • Gunnar is a sweet 2-year-old German Shepherd who is great with kids and dogs—he is available for adoption from It Takes a Village. He weighs about 70 pounds and offers loyal companionship as both a pet and gentle protector.  WOMI Owensboro
  • Owensboro will host its annual All-American Fourth of July celebration on July 4 with festivities starting at 5 p.m. at Smothers Park along the downtown riverfront where live music by Flat Stanley and The Downtown Band will play. Fireworks will launch from barges on the Ohio River at 9:15 p.m.—officials said that three other launch sites will be closed for safety.  TriStateHomepage.com

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Dozens of residents from an Owensboro nursing home were displaced by a fire last week and have settled at Fern Terrace in Bowling Green where community members donated supplies—and United Way helped coordinate support—even as many still struggle with trauma while cleanup continues and plans to return remain uncertain.  TriStateHomepage.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced that Owensboro's Big Blue Bridge — known as the Glover Cary Bridge — will close after the July 4 weekend for deck replacement and concrete repairs. Traffic will be detoured to U.S. 231 while American Contracting & Services works to reopen the bridge by early October.  44 News
  • The Owensboro Bridge will close for 90 days this summer after July 4 for major repairs to its concrete deck—workers will replace one 750-foot span and fix another. Preliminary work with one-lane closures is set for June 9 to 11, and drivers must detour over the U.S. 231 William H. Natcher Bridge.  The Owensboro Times
