Joey Dickens of Whitesville spent three days at Holiday World with 12 grandkids (ages 2 to 12) as they enjoyed six trips and rode water slides and coasters.
His busy adventure celebrated family fun and helped earn him the 'Pappy of the Year' title.
🎭 Culture
Throwback Rock Night will return this Friday at McConnell Plaza as classic rock fans enjoy tributes by Resurrection, A Journey Tribute and Reckless, America's Bryan Adams Experience.
The free event runs from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and includes live music by Flat Stanley Band on the Overlook Stage.
The ROMP bluegrass music festival will take place at Yellow Creek Park from June 24 to June 27.
Local music fans can look forward to live bluegrass performances that celebrate our community’s rich musical heritage.
🎓 Education
Owensboro Public Schools selected Lindsey Alvey as its new instructional coordinator for math and science; she brings 15 years of classroom experience (six years at Country Heights Elementary) and will begin her role on July 1 to boost curriculum consistency.
The Owensboro Family YMCA will expand its state-regulated preschool program on Aug.
17 by adding 40 new spots for children ages 3-5. Registration opens Monday, June 8, and full-day classes run from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays.

Apollo advanced to the second round of the state tournament after Gunnar Hendricks' three-run homer powered a 5-3 win over Whitley County + they will now face Campbell County.
Ross Milburn of Apollo boys baseball and Mollie Julian of Apollo girls softball earned weekly honors after receiving the most votes in the poll on Thursday, June 4 — a recognition that spotlights local sports talent.
