- ➤ The Owensboro Convention Center will host 4th Fest on July 4 with free indoor activities for families from 6 to 9 p.m. A fireworks show is set to begin around 9:15 p.m. and ticketed seating options—ranging from $10 to $500—are available for those wanting a reserved view. The Owensboro Times
- ➤ The City of Owensboro will host its annual All-American Fourth of July celebration on July 4th with live music starting at 5:00 p.m. at Smothers Park on the downtown riverfront—Flat Stanley will open the event and Downtown Band will follow at 7:00 p.m.—and a fireworks show is set for 9:15 p.m. on the riverfront, while three other displays across the city will launch with their sites closed for safety. 44 News
- ➤ Yellow Creek Park’s splash pad closed on Thursday because of a water leak just days after its Monday reopening—county officials said it will reopen later today while visitors may use nearby parks in the meantime. 44 News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Cottage Farm Stand will host the Strawberry Festival today and tomorrow in Sorgho, featuring over 100 vendors offering food, live music, a car show, and family-friendly attractions. New features include Truck Town—an interactive display with big rigs and farm equipment—plus a petting zoo, pony rides, inflatables, and face painting with $5 admission per vehicle. WOMI Owensboro
- ➤ Hannah Rager—a Muhlenberg County High School graduate and current junior at University of Louisville who was recently crowned Miss University of Louisville—will compete in the Miss Kentucky Pageant at SkyPAC in Bowling Green from June 11th through June 14th as she aims to represent our state at Miss America. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet reopened the West Fifth Street road bridge in Owensboro on June 6 with temporary one-lane traffic signals (installed after a vehicle struck two support beams on April 28) and plans to widen the approaches and restripe the structure while engineers order replacement parts. - ➤ Andy Ball resigned from his role as Daviess County Emergency Management Agency Director Friday evening, saying he resigned for various reasons. He served since December 2014 — County Judge Executive Charlie Castlen said he was surprised by the news. The Owensboro Times
- ➤ A contractor was chosen to replace the bridge deck on Old Hartford Road at the south fork of Panther Creek—half a mile east of U.S. 231—and Fiscal Court received emergency county road aid funding to support the repairs, which will be completed by the end of September by Scott & Murphy, Inc.
