COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Daviess County Lions Club Fair will be held from July 16th to July 19th at the fairgrounds in Philpot and will offer rides, live music, pageants, and fair food for all ages. Proceeds will support local eye care services—continuing a 50-year community tradition.  WOMI Owensboro
  • Two Owensboro pools are hosting family swim events this month—Cravens Pool started its 'Paddle and Play' Open Swim for children five and younger on June 10th and will hold sessions Tuesdays and Thursdays until July 31st, while Combest Pool will host a 'Water Safety Day' on June 16th with free swim lessons and water safety tips for all ages.  44 News
  • Owensboro city officials say the Senior Community Center will break ground on June 18 at 1 p.m. at the corner of Carter Road and West Second, and the new eight-acre campus will include an expanded all-purpose room for meals and events, dedicated classrooms and two exercise rooms—plus indoor and outdoor walking trails—for residents aged 60 and older.  14 News
  • Officials from It Takes a Village are asking local community members to foster or adopt over 50 cats from a hoarding case at their Daviess County shelter. The center is at capacity from this case and a previous May rescue that brought extra animals—fosters can help by visiting the Daviess County Rescue Center from noon to 5 p.m.  TriStateHomepage.com

  • Chris Meyer, a lifelong Owensboro native and Daviess County High School graduate, has taken ownership of Bluegrass Eye Care—one of the city’s oldest optometry practices dating back to the 1910s. He will continue serving longtime patients and work with familiar staff at the office on Frederica Street while giving the practice a modern touch.  The Owensboro Times

CRIME NEWS

  • The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office seized 50 cats from a home on Highway 56 and 22 dogs from a home on Sycamore Street after inspectors found severe neglect and unsanitary conditions — charges were issued and treatments arranged — in separate investigations.  TriStateHomepage.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Owensboro Art Guild’s Downtown Fine Art Show will return on July 12 with live music, food, and kids’ activities in the garden behind Fetta Specialty Pizza—featuring up to 40 artist booths to mark its fifth anniversary. Organizer Leeza Dukes said the event will offer a chance for local artists to show their work and engage the community.  The Owensboro Times
  • Three local acts, Ole 60, Sons of Habit, and Colt Graves, will perform at REDWEST Music Festival in Salt Lake City — sharing the stage with major acts as they mark a step in national recognition, while Owensboro’s free Friday After 5 summer concert series continues downtown every Friday through August 1 with multi-stage shows and community events.  WOMI Owensboro
