  • On June 12, youth from all six Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club locations gathered at the Mike Horn Unit on Buckland Square for the annual AG Day event—where they rotated through hands-on stations focused on animal science, food production, soil health and farm technology, all sponsored by Cargill.  The Owensboro Times
  • Local artist Will Evans organized the free Bulldog Art Camp this week at Owensboro Christian Church to give young students a safe place to explore art through drawing, painting, and other projects — with food provided by local restaurants and help from community volunteers.   • Green River Distilling Co. celebrated the Army’s 250th Anniversary by launching a limited-edition bourbon today after a first-sip ceremony where a veteran parachute team dropped the first bottle to veterans and active-duty soldiers—retired Colonel Mark Erwin led the ceremonial toast. The whiskey is available at Green River Whiskey and Bardstown Bourbon locations and includes free personalization for all veterans and military personnel.  14 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum launches its ROMP Around Town initiative for the fourth time, sending 12 local bands to perform at nursing homes, assisted living centers and Wendell Foster—bringing music to those who cannot attend the festival. The effort, led by the museum’s Bluegrass Music Academy, aims to include elderly and disabled residents in the community’s celebration of bluegrass.  The Owensboro Times

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Tourism in Owensboro brought a $249.7 million economic impact and nearly 2,000 jobs while hotels, restaurants, and attractions broke occupancy records from January to May. The city will see further growth with a new hotel and downtown sports complex underway — a sign of continued local momentum.  44 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Three months after a historic hail storm, the Daviess County Landfill has more than tripled the volume of construction and demolition debris with record single-day moves reported at both the Transfer Station and the Landfill. Solid Waste Manager Travis Ricker estimates an extra 15,000 tons per month coming mainly from shingles and roofing components — a surge that tests local waste management capacity.  Daviess County

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Daviess County Public Works demolished a former house at 7744 Kentucky Highway 2830 next to the Mattingly Target Shooting Range. In January, the Fiscal Court approved a purchase agreement for the 13-acre parcel and cleanup work will be done + about one-third of the acreage is outside the floodplain.  Daviess County
  • At the Kentucky Jailers’ Association Summer Conference in Covington, Chris Isbill of the Daviess County Detention Center was named the 2025 Deputy Jailer of the Year—he was honored for rescuing a driver in January when a tractor-trailer overturned and caught fire on U.S. 60.  Daviess County
  • Gov. Beshear visited the Greater Owensboro Chamber on Friday to boost support for his Pre-K for All plan that would give every 4-year-old universal preschool access and lower child-care costs—local business and education leaders said the plan is key to strengthening the workforce and preparing children for kindergarten.  The Owensboro Times
