COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Daviess County Special Olympics has served over 200 local athletes for more than 40 years by offering sports training, competitions, and community activities. They will host a softball tournament Sept. 5-7 and plan flag football and bowling events in October — expanding opportunities for inclusion.  The Owensboro Times

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dr. Audra Dorroh and Dr. Colby Dorroh opened the Aesthetic Dental & Skin Institute where people in Owensboro can get dental care, skin treatments, and med spa services such as facials, Botox, and chemical peels — a mix of science and art in one place. They plan to add bioidentical hormone replacement therapy soon — a new way to help patients feel more confident.  The Owensboro Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Reid Chancellor, a comic author and musician who has lived in Owensboro for 8 years, will visit the Daviess County Public Library on June 28 to talk about his new book, Hardcore Happiness: A Graphic Journey to Find Punk’s Positivity, and play live music. The free event will let the audience ask questions and learn about mental health and punk culture.  The Owensboro Times
  • OMG!con celebrated its 20-year anniversary at Owensboro Convention Center. Just over one year ago, the event marked its 10th anniversary at the venue+ showing its ongoing role in local anime, cosplay and gaming.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer

  • Matthew 25 AIDS Services will offer free and confidential HIV tests at selected Walgreens locations — Owensboro, Bowling Green, Henderson and Evansville — this Friday, June 27 from 10am to 7pm to help residents know their status and get connected to care.  WOMI Owensboro

  • Brescia University is hosting its first summer basketball camp today at Moore Center Gym (717 Frederica Street) for elementary and high school players, led by Coach Matt Karn and former pro Corey Wilford.
