COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Senior centers across the Green River Area Development District region earned Veteran-Friendly certification after completing a training session hosted by the Department for Aging and Independent Living with support from the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs—this recognition will help veterans and their families access local services more easily. Kentucky is the first state to launch the program, marking a significant advancement in community support for veterans.  The Owensboro Times

CRIME NEWS

  • The Owensboro Police Department reported that five people were arrested on Friday after search warrants at two Thornton Avenue homes led to the seizure of large amounts of drugs, 13 rifles, cash & other items linked to a drug trafficking investigation.  The Owensboro Times
  • Deputies responded to a fatal shooting on Thursday night near Saint Anthony Road off U.S. Highway 431 in Brown’s Valley when 57-year-old Darrin Ray Carter shot a man in the chest at close range—investigators noted the victim did not live at the home, was taken to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital where he later died, and Carter now faces manslaughter and other charges.  44 News

  • Campers and event crew moved into ROMP on June 27 to begin four days of bluegrass music and fun — the event will run until July 1 — and attract local music fans.  The Owensboro Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Thursday, Owensboro Innovation Academy partnered with Western Academy to offer hands-on drone and coding training at the H.L. Neblett Community Center. Kids learned how to fly drones and explore the tech behind the controls — organizers said the event promoted STEM learning for local students.  The Owensboro Times

  • A softball team from Daviess and nearby counties won the District 1 Championship in Bowling Green by scoring 40 runs and keeping their opponents scoreless + they will travel on July 4 to compete at the state championship in Ashland with a chance to move on to the Super Regionals and eventually play in the Little League Softball World Series on ESPN.  WOMI Owensboro
