Girls Inc. of Owensboro-Daviess County is hosting its annual Red on the River Casino Night at Riverpark Center on August 15 + guests will enjoy food by Nona's Catering, a silent auction, live DJ and a raffle for $2,500 that supports programs for local girls.
Precision Exotics will bring its fleet of supercars to the Owensboro Air Show from Sept.
11–13 to offer car enthusiasts a chance to test drive Lamborghinis, McLarens, and Porsches at a weekend-long event.
Owensboro residents met local officers at Chautauqua Park today despite light rain and enjoyed free hot dogs (and cold lemonade).
The next Police in the Park event will return July 22 at Moreland Park.
🎭 Culture
RiverPark Center received a $5,000 grant from the Kentucky Colonels yesterday to upgrade its drinking water stations — the upgrade will make the downtown venue more accessible for over 80,000 visitors attending performances, educational programs, camps, and community events.
🎓 Education
Applications are open for four Larry 'Chick' Owen Memorial Scholarships ($500 each) for high school students in Classes of 2026 and 2027.
The awards will be presented during the Dust Bowl varsity boys’ championship later this month, and applications must be submitted by Monday, July 20.
Girls Inc. and German American Bank hosted the third Women in Law Day where 14 girls explored law careers and joined mock trial at Daviess County Courthouse.
Organizer LaShay Vera (a recent Apollo High graduate) led the event; she will study criminal justice at the University of Louisville this fall.
🏈 Sports
The Owensboro Bombers exploded in a seven-run second inning to secure an 11-1 win over Elberfeld on Thursday, as Markell Yates had two RBIs + scored twice.
The team will host Pontotoc at home on Friday.
The GO Junior Golf Series finished Monday, July 8 at Owensboro Country Club, crowning champions in multiple age groups.
Owensboro’s Hawk Roberts & Finley Fogle won the 8-under division while winners in the 9-12 and teen groups from Owensboro, Madisonville, Hardinsburg, and Beaver Dam highlighted local talent.
