COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Old Owensboro Neighborhood Alliance is holding its first meeting back today at 5:30 p.m. at Third Baptist Church after a 2-year pause, with local leaders urging homeowners, renters, and business owners to share ideas for community improvements—meetings will occur every second Thursday through November.  TriStateHomepage.com
  • Boulware Mission’s biggest fundraiser, Dancing With Our Stars, will be held on August 9 at RiverPark Center as five dance teams—featuring unique pairings like family duos—perform to raise funds for programs that help men recover from addiction. VIP ticket holders will get early access at 6:00 p.m. while the show starts at 7:00 p.m.  The Owensboro Times
  • Today, residents have a chance to connect with local police at Chautauqua Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.—officers will grill hot dogs, serve lemonade, host games and Southern Star will hand out free popsicles.  44 News
  • Nonprofits in Daviess County can still apply for the 2025 Trash for Cash program — groups will be reimbursed $130 per mile for cleaning up local roadways. Eligible organizations must submit a W-9 form and complete the application for review by Daviess County Fiscal Court on a first-come, first-served basis.  The Owensboro Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Cinema 66 in Tell City announced it will lower its ticket prices to $4 for shows before 6:00 p.m. and $6 for evening shows starting Friday, July 11—just ahead of the 'Superman' release. The theater also will offer free kids’ movies every Thursday in July—except July 17 at 1:00 p.m.  WOMI Owensboro

  • Dr. James Cousins is steering Kentucky Wesleyan into a new era by launching a new MBA program this fall and expanding online courses to strengthen local workforce opportunities. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Owensboro Fire Department and Daviess County Fire Department held a joint training today to practice elevator rescues for situations when malfunctions trap people. The teams used realistic scenarios to sharpen their skills—helping them respond safely in emergencies.  The Owensboro Times

  • Owensboro teacher Christie Humphrey is returning home today after nearly a month in a Greek hospital for a critical illness she suffered on a church trip & she is scheduled to arrive at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville by midnight following a 2 p.m. departure from Athens.  The Owensboro Times
