COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Londun Randolph attended the Alma Randolph Charitable Foundation’s Back-to-School Shopping Event on Tuesday, July 22 at Burlington, Bealls, and Ross stores where over 250 families received $100 vouchers so children could buy new clothes and start school with dignity. The foundation has dressed more than 17,500 children since 1993 — a life-saving program that many local families call life-changing — and continues to help local children.  The Owensboro Times

CRIME NEWS

  • Back in May, five people were charged with adult exploitation and forgery after allegedly taking a 78-year-old man from his home — the Senior Center is planning an elder abuse program to warn others and improve care.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer

CULTURE NEWS

  • Daviess County High School graduate Cole Burch will release his debut novel 'Elevate: The Elijah Cross Story' on Amazon by the end of this week — the book explores themes of resilience, sports, and mental health as it follows the journey of Elijah Cross. Burch managed every step of publishing himself using Amazon’s free tools — and he plans to develop more writing projects in the future.  The Owensboro Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education announced that Sister Judith Nell Riney, the retired director of library services at Brescia University, is this year's winner of the KYVL Sheree Award—recognizing her 45-year career and lasting service to Kentucky Virtual Library. She said she is proud of her role—helping build a system that gives fair access to library resources for all.  TriStateHomepage.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Green River Area Development District is launching the Kentucky Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Program to help income-eligible grandparents get up to $500 for essential items when the child's parents do not live at home—grandparents in Daviess, McLean, Hancock, Ohio, Henderson, Union and Webster Counties may reapply yearly until the grandchild reaches 18.  14 News
  • The Owensboro Police Department is accepting applications for Class 4 of its Basic Training Academy, with forms due by noon on September 26 for the 23-week course starting in March at the new training facility featuring a gun range and simulation system — a setup that lets recruits train locally. Applicants are advised to begin preparing for the physical fitness and written tests soon.  The Owensboro Times

  • The Daviess County girls’ golf team started their season today at Bowling Green Country Club — enduring a four-hour rain delay — and finished fifth with a score of 334. Claire Reynolds led with a 75 and the team will play again on Thursday at the Pearl Club.  The Owensboro Times
