ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Fire officials said a semi truck caught fire last Friday around 8 p.m. on the 7000 block of Highway 60 East in Daviess County— a quick-thinking driver disconnected a hauling semi which limited the fire to one power unit and closed one lane as crews contained it.  14 News
  • An accident involving an overturned semi truck has been reported in Owensboro at the 1700 block of Audubon Parkway—crews from the Daviess County Sheriffs Office, fire and EMS are working at the scene and closed both lanes of westbound traffic for several hours as the extent of injuries remains unknown.  TriStateHomepage.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Saturday night during the Dust Bowl championship at Kendall-Perkins Park, four Owensboro students received $500 scholarships from the Owensboro Times, PeezO’s Pizza and Gus Johnson. The awards – created in memory of Larry 'Chick' Owen – were doubled from two to four after strong community support.  The Owensboro Times
  • Sister Judith Nell Riney, the recently retired director of library services at Brescia University, has been named the KYVL Sheree Award recipient for her 45 years of work expanding digital library access statewide—an honor that recognizes her early and ongoing contributions to the KYVL program.  The Owensboro Times
  • A new Assumption Chapel is under construction at Owensboro Catholic High School as part of a $2.7 million project that converts the small gym into a chapel and adds a multipurpose steel building for the award-winning band and extracurricular activities. The student-driven initiative raised $1 million in a spring campaign and needs an additional $335,000 to complete the project—community support is welcomed to finish these final steps.  The Owensboro Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Owensboro Post 9 Bombers beat American Legion Kentucky Post 8 3-0—Reed Sherrard and Levi Rogers combined for seven shutout innings with nine strikeouts—to return to the state championship game. They will defend their title today at 3 p.m.  The Owensboro Times
  • The Daviess County girls' golf team finished third at the Lady Bruin Invitational on July 26 with a team score of 334 behind Sacred Heart (302) and Bowling Green (323). Claire Reynolds led the team with a 75 while Baylie Billingsley (80), Briley Billingsley (86), Kennedi Minton (93) and Ayla Roberts (103) contributed the other scores, coach Brandon Reynolds said the team proved its hard work in the heat.  The Owensboro Times
