  • The Owensboro senior center will host a fundraiser to expand senior services on Oct. 2 at Immaculate Parish Hall, starting at 6 p.m.—tickets cost $75 and can be bought at the center until Sept. 26. The event will feature dinner, awards and Memory Lane Bingo to support more local seniors.  14 News

  • Big Whiskey’s American Restaurant and Bar is set to open its first Kentucky location on Friday, August 15 in Owensboro. Officials report that the restaurant at 234 Frederica Street has been finalized with trained staff to serve local diners.  14 News

  • GRITS Party Bus is a mobile art gallery that travels across Owensboro to lift community spirits. GRITS driver and artist Will Evans has been adding new artwork—donated by local community members including Opportunity Center clients—to brighten each ride.  WOMI Owensboro

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Officials warn that invasive spotted lanternflies could harm local orchards, logging, and agriculture if the pest spreads further. They ask residents to take a photo, squish the bug, and report sightings immediately—helping protect our industries from damage.  WOMI Owensboro

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Following a Presidential disaster declaration on July 22, the SBA announced that low interest federal disaster loans are now available for private nonprofit organizations in nine Kentucky counties that were hit by severe storms from April 2 to May 16. Eligible groups such as food kitchens, homeless shelters, libraries and community centers may borrow up to $2 million for repairs plus cover additional costs for mitigation and operating expenses.  TriStateHomepage.com
