- ➤ Southern Living named Owensboro one of the South’s top three barbecue destinations and praised its signature mutton and burgoo — a nod to long-held smoky traditions. - ➤ Steffan Clark and Ellis Birkhead will launch The Groove Lab, a new dance studio offering hip hop, funk and commercial dance classes for kids and adults in Owensboro next month. They will open enrollment (mid-August) and begin classes (mid-to-late September) to create a welcoming space for everyone. The Owensboro Times
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The annual VEX V5 Robotics Competition called Haunted will be held at the Owensboro Convention Center from October 23 to 26 and is expected to host over 160 high school and college teams—about 1,200 students—from across the country and Canada. The teams will design, build, program and drive robots in 2v2 matches as they compete in this robotics event. TriStateHomepage.com
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials began a daytime lane closure on eastbound KY54 between Ralph Avenue and Bold Forbes Way—operating from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily for the next two weeks—to install storm sewer drains. The $23.3 million project will widen the roadway from four to six lanes to reduce traffic for the 32,000 vehicles that use the corridor. 14 News
