CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Daviess County deputies are investigating an assault at a Whitesville business on the 11000 block of Highway 54 after a victim was taken to the hospital on August 13th between 4 and 5 p.m.—extra patrols have been scheduled and officials ask anyone with information on vehicles near the Rooster’s Crow parking lot to come forward. 14 News
- ➤ On May 30, Owensboro Police reported that $182,996 was stolen from the bank account of Chin Emmanuel Baptist Church on Allen Street—authorities are investigating the crime. 14 News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A new book called American Bloodlines: Reckoning With Lynch Culture will examine Owensboro’s role in the 1936 public hanging of Rainey Bethea and how that event still affects the community—using personal stories and old records to shed light on a hard chapter in local history. Written by Owensboro native Sonya Lea, the book will be released later in 2025 by the University Press of Kentucky. The Owensboro Times
- ➤ The Hope Gallery is moving to a larger space — at 1109 S. Green River Road across from Washington Square Mall — and will open Tuesday, September 2. The gallery gives work and art opportunities to individuals with developmental disabilities. WOMI Owensboro
- ➤ The Owensboro Museum of Science and History and the local AAUW will unveil the Voices of Women: Owensboro and the Struggle for Women’s Equal Rights exhibit on Tuesday, August 26 at 5:00 p.m. in the Mammoth Lobby—showing rare photos and personal accounts of local suffrage leaders. 14 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Crews will start replacing the Katie Meadow Slough bridge near Stanley on U.S. 60 on Monday, August 25 and officials warn that traffic will face delays until just before Christmas—crews will work one side at a time to keep one lane open. 14 News
- ➤ Governor Beshear said the I-69 Ohio River Crossing deal is a big step as the state approved plans to build a new bridge linking Henderson and Evansville—using tolls, federal funds, and state funds. The contract will be awarded in late 2026 with work set to start early 2027 and finish by 2031 at a cost of $933 million. TriStateHomepage.com
