COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, Wendell Foster opened its new aquatic center after nearly three years of construction—this pool features five therapy levels, changing rooms and safe stairs to help people with disabilities enjoy water activities. Families and medical experts praised supporters for raising funds to complete the project.  44 News
  • Students, staff and community members at Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro have built beds for children over the past seven years and will add 16 new beds on Monday—each bed comes with a mattress, bedding and pillows plus a Bible, toothbrush and toothpaste—some beds were given out immediately while others will be delivered later this week.  TriStateHomepage.com

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A portion of the former Towne Square Mall will be converted into an indoor entertainment center featuring Malibu Jack’s, which will include a go-kart track, bowling, laser tag, mini golf, and arcade games. Construction begins immediately—officials say the project will create 75 full-time and 50 part-time jobs and revitalize the South Frederica corridor in Owensboro.  The Owensboro Times

  • The Owensboro Museum of Science and History opened its new exhibit History Unveils Voices of Women on August 26 at 5 p.m.—honoring the 105th anniversary of women’s suffrage and Women’s Equality Day by displaying photographs, archival research and personal narratives about the suffrage fight in Daviess County.  TriStateHomepage.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the Owensboro-Daviess County Metropolitan Planning Organization boosted the scores of three road projects—KY 54 widening, the KY 331/U.S. 60 intersection, and Fairview Drive reconstruction—by 20 points, increasing their chance to get state funding. The score boost helps set the timeline for these projects to be included in the next state highway plan + drives the funding priority.  The Owensboro Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Wendell Foster Center in Owensboro cut a ribbon for its new aquatic center just after noon Tuesday—officials said the facility was designed to offer year-round aquatic therapy for people with disabilities.  TriStateHomepage.com
